Features:

William Woods was founded in 1870 as a school for girls. The first class of men crossed the bridge in 1997. Two national fraternities–Pi Kappa Alpha and Phi Gamma Delta–were begun in 2000. The institution’s first female president, Dr. Jahnae H. Barnett, took William Woods to the status of University in 1992. The university began offering graduate programming at that time. The college has approximately 2,700 students with the graduate population.

Computer information management was offered in 1998, majors in juvenile justice (the only program in the state), political and legal studies, mass communication and journalism were offered in 1999. In 2001 the Graduate and Adult Studies program implemented an AA-Liberal Arts, an MBA-Accounting and an MBA-Health Management. In 2005, WWU added homeland security to its criminal justice program. Qualified students may complete bachelor’s degree in 3 years through Century Scholars program.
