It is located on 53 acres in a historic residential neighborhood and the 280-acre Katharine Ordway Natural History Study Area on the Mississippi River is just 16 miles from campus. The college has invested $77 million in campus facilities since 1995. Macalester ranks 23rd among all liberal arts colleges in number of alumni who earned a doctorate between 1990 and 1999. 47 freshmen were National Merit Scholars in 2006-2007.
