Features:
Clarke was founded by the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) in 1843 as a woman’s boarding school three years before Iowa became a state. In 1881 the school moved to the hilltop location it presently holds. The school went coeducational in 1979. Since 1997 the college has completed five major renovation projects. In 1998 a new student apartment building was built along with a new student activities center in 2000.
